In June 1946, Stalin's invitation to Russian emigres turns into a treacherous trap. A ship-load of returnees from France arrives in Odessa, where only a physician and his family escape execution or imprisonment. This leads them to Kiev, where the physician's French wife, stripped of her passport, desperately wants to return to France, unaware of the dangers that surround them.

The film delves into themes of survival and the harsh realities faced by those caught between two worlds. With a talented cast including Oleg Menshikov and Sergei Bodrov Jr., East/West presents a gripping narrative that reflects the tumultuous period of post-war Europe. The performances bring depth to the characters' struggles as they navigate a life filled with uncertainty and fear.
