Edmea - Wexford Festival Opera

"Edmea" tells the story of an orphan named Edmea who is in love with Count Oberto. However, Oberto's father disapproves of their relationship, leading to a series of dramatic events. In Oberto's absence, Edmea is forced to marry Ulmo, a servant also in love with her. This situation drives Edmea to madness, prompting a desperate suicide attempt.

As Edmea wanders the countryside with Ulmo, who pretends to be her brother, they encounter a band of jesters. Eventually, they return to the castle where Oberto mourns Edmea's loss. Upon recognizing her, Oberto's declarations of love help Edmea regain her sanity. The climax of the story unfolds with Ulmo's ultimate sacrifice, allowing Edmea and Oberto to marry. This poignant tale reflects the depth of love and the painful choices characters face in their lives.
