The story follows the Horváth family, consisting of seven children, as they navigate the difficulties following the father's tragic death. Vera, the mother, finds herself in a battle with the authorities, determined to keep her family united despite being ill-prepared for the challenges ahead. Their eviction leads her to cross paths with a young lawyer, who takes on the case for her career, unaware of the complexities involved.

The lawyer’s initial disinterest in the Romani culture presents obstacles in her representation of the Horváth family. However, she gradually becomes more invested in the case, supported by a social worker who is personally motivated to assist the family. El Paso presents a poignant look at societal issues, prejudice, and the resilience of family bonds amidst adversity.
