Encounter with a Killer

The documentary focuses on Pedro Alonso López, who was notorious for his brutal crimes as the Monster or the Strangler of the Andes. After his capture in 1980, López benefited from Ecuadorian laws that allowed for a potentially shorter sentence. As his release date approaches, family members of his victims grapple with the legal system to keep him incarcerated.

López's narrative unfolds through a series of letters he writes, where he attempts to exonerate himself and implicate another man, Jorge Patiño. However, it becomes evident that Patiño is a figment of López's imagination. The film not only explores the impact of López's actions but also highlights the struggles faced by the victims' families in seeking justice.
