Erster Verlust

The film centers on Heinrich Marten, a farmer conscripted into the military, leaving his wife Kathrin and sister Frieda to manage the farm. To help them, the state assigns a Russian prisoner of war, Alexei, who requires care and nourishment from the two women. As they work together on the farm, Kathrin and Frieda develop a bond with Alexei, leading to unexpected romantic entanglements amidst the backdrop of war.

Frieda finds herself courted by local farmer Otto Lange, creating a delicate balance of dependency and aspiration. Meanwhile, Kathrin embarks on a love affair with Alexei, culminating in a clandestine encounter that is ultimately discovered. The tension escalates when Alexei is apprehended by Nazi soldiers, highlighting the perilous circumstances surrounding their lives during this tumultuous period in history.
