Escapee is one of those low-key horror flicks that creeps under your skin. Abby Jones is just a psychology student trying to make sense of her world, but her trip to the mental hospital pulls her into something dark. Harmon Porter, the patient she meets, is unsettlingly intense. His character really drives the tension of the film. It’s got a gritty feel, like it’s all happening in a world that’s just a bit off-kilter. The pacing is tight, keeps you on edge without unnecessary filler. The practical effects? Not overdone, but enough to give you that sense of realism. The performances have a rawness that’s refreshing, feels genuine. It's these elements that make the film stick with you, lingering long after the credits roll.
