The story centers on the Draags, towering blue humanoids with advanced technology and spirituality, who dominate the Oms—small human-descended creatures treated as pets or pests. The Oms exist in two groups: those enslaved and those living wild, hunted by the Draags. This narrative examines oppression and resistance within a vividly imagined alien society.

René Laloux directed the film with animation by Roland Topor, known for his distinctive, dreamlike designs that contribute to the film’s unsettling atmosphere.
