Finding Common Ground in New Orleans

This short documentary features Walidah Imarisha as she travels through New Orleans and its surrounding towns, highlighting the efforts of grassroots organizations like Common Ground and Soul Patrol. These groups emerged in response to the inadequate governmental evacuation and relief efforts before, during, and after the hurricane.

Imarisha's journey also takes her to Camp Amtrak, a makeshift jail and courtroom set up at an old bus station, where she witnesses the community service sentencing of inmates. The film captures the ongoing struggles of residents who are still awaiting assistance from FEMA, showcasing both the pain and resilience of the community in the face of adversity.
