Five Day Rest

The film follows young soldier Alexei Kazantsev during December 1941, as he and his company take a brief respite from the front lines in Leningrad. While stationed in a barracks outside the city, Alexei becomes infatuated with Olya, a girl who visits her father, Private Koshkin, a volunteer preparing to return to combat.

As Olya struggles with illness and hunger, Koshkin selflessly shares his meager rations with her. This act of kindness highlights the desperation faced by those caught in the conflict. Alexei, moved by Olya's plight, strives to care for her, culminating in their marriage just before he heads back to the front.
