Flug in die Nacht - Das Unglück von Überlingen

The film centers on air traffic controller Johann Lenders, who is thrust into a nightmarish situation when he discovers two planes on a collision course. Despite his desperate attempts to prevent the disaster, the Russian passenger plane and German cargo plane collide, resulting in the loss of 71 lives. This catastrophic event forms the crux of the narrative, highlighting the tension and responsibility faced by air traffic controllers.

Alongside Lenders, the story also follows Yuri Balkayev, who is left waiting at Barcelona airport for his wife and children. When they fail to arrive, he learns they were among the victims of the Überlingen accident. His journey to find those accountable for the tragedy is intertwined with the struggles of Lenders, who is haunted by the disaster and feels a deep sense of guilt.
