Fluteman is an intriguing little gem from '82, weaving together elements of drama and folklore. The story is set in this parched town, Minyaka, and follows this enigmatic character who shows up just when the townsfolk are at their wits' end. He plays his flute to summon rain, which is pretty striking, honestly, with some nice practical effects that give a real sense of the small-town desperation. The pacing feels a bit slow at times, but it lets the tension build as you watch the town council become increasingly consumed by their own greed. The performances, too, have a raw authenticity. It’s this odd mix of whimsy and a darker moral lesson on pride and the consequences of greed that really stuck with me.
