Fontamara

Fontamara tells the story of a village in the Marsica region of Italy, where its inhabitants, labeled 'cafoni', navigate their difficult lives. Berardo Viola's determination to marry Elvira drives him to seek wealth through land ownership, leading him to the great city in search of opportunity. However, the journey takes a dark turn when tragedy strikes Maria Grazia, pushing Berardo and his friend Antonio to flee Fontamara for Rome.

In the city, they encounter betrayal by a lawyer and face further challenges when they are arrested for possessing subversive materials at the invitation of an antifascist. The film vividly portrays the socio-political climate of the time, blending personal ambition with broader themes of resistance and injustice. With its compelling characters and rich storytelling, Fontamara offers a deep look into the struggles faced by ordinary people during a tumultuous period in history.
