Freiheit in Fesseln

The story follows Franz Aigner, a carpenter who faces the consequences of his actions after killing a man in an argument. With a three-year suspended sentence, he begins working as a bargeman on the Spree. During this time, he develops feelings for Marie, the daughter of the bargeman, but finds himself in a rivalry with the brutal second bargeman, Paul.

As tensions rise, Paul’s malicious attempts to provoke Franz lead to a critical moment when he tries to assault Marie.
