The film centers on Alexander Steinhorst, a journalist and editor-in-chief of the "Südkurier" newspaper, who has achieved significant social status and wealth. His life takes a tragic turn when he publishes revelations about the CSU election fund, which prompts retaliation from the CSU lawyer Dr. Fabricius. Steinhorst is accused of serious charges but is acquitted due to insufficient evidence.

Despite his legal victory, Steinhorst faces social isolation as friends and colleagues distance themselves from him, fearing for their own careers. As his reputation crumbles and his assets are seized, he ultimately succumbs to despair and takes his own life. This film offers a somber look at the personal and professional risks associated with journalistic integrity in a politically charged atmosphere.
