Funny Money from 1982 has this gritty, raw atmosphere that really captures the chaos of the underground crime scene. The pacing is a bit uneven, but it kind of adds to the tension as we follow Barry Nichols, who unwittingly snags a pile of cash that doesn’t belong to him. The blend of crime and drama here is interesting, especially when his girlfriend, Cass, pops up in London, desperate and clutching stolen credit cards. The performances are decent, and there’s this palpable sense of danger that runs through the film, especially with the hood character limping after Barry. It’s unique in its approach, a bit of a hidden gem exploring themes of desperation and survival amidst the criminal underbelly.
