Gado Gado

Gado Gado follows Wahid as he recounts his life after moving to the city for work, influenced by his girlfriend, Rahmah. Caught in various sticky situations, he navigates the challenges of finding steady employment. This film is notable for being one of the 91 surviving titles from the Cathay-Keris Malay Classics, made during Singapore’s Golden Cinema era from the 1950s to early 1970s.

With a runtime of just 35 minutes, Gado Gado is the only musical variety short from the Cathay-Keris catalogue. It has been preserved by the Asian Film Archive and, in 2014, was inscribed onto the UNESCO Memory of The World Asia-Pacific Register, highlighting its importance as an endangered cultural artifact. The film's black and white presentation and elements of drag contribute to its distinctive character within the genre.
