The film follows Roman Mukhin, an employee at a metallurgical company, who is encouraged to take a child from an orphanage into his care. His wife, Elena, believes that adding another child will help their marriage, leading them to choose 11-year-old Marta Chemesova. However, Marta is reluctant to leave her grandmother in Khanty-Mansiysk, though she eventually agrees to the move to Moscow.

As the story unfolds, the initial enthusiasm of the family quickly gives way to challenges. Even a trip to India, a dream destination for Marta, does not automatically transform their relationship into a cohesive family unit. The film delves into the emotional struggles and realities of forming new familial bonds.
