Ginger Snaps is one of those films that sneaks up on you. It's this mix of teen angst and body horror that really gets under your skin. The suburban setting of Bailey Downs feels suffocating, and the bond between Ginger and Brigitte is palpable. There's some solid practical effects work, especially in the transformation scenes—definitely a highlight. Katharine Isabelle as Ginger brings this wild energy, while Emily Perkins stands out with her quieter intensity as Brigitte. The pacing has a nice build, blending dark humor with genuine horror. A lot of folks don’t realize how smartly it tackles themes of puberty and identity, all wrapped in a monster flick. It’s not your typical werewolf movie, and that’s what makes it special.
Directed by John Fawcett, released in 2000.Features practical effects that enhance the horror.Strong themes of adolescence and identity.Has a cult following, especially among genre fans.
