Gokulam, a 1993 film, weaves together comedy and drama in a rather charming way. Jayaram as Chellappa really brings this orphan character to life, running a struggling photo studio with a couple of quirky friends, which sets a light-hearted tone. Bhanupriya's character, Mary, introduces a romantic thread as she arrives in the village to learn singing, and her interactions with Kannan add some tension. The pacing feels relaxed, allowing the viewer to soak in the village atmosphere. Practical effects aren’t a highlight, but the performances are what really draw you in—especially with the comedic timing from Chinni Jayanth and Vadivelu. It’s the kind of film that captures small-town life and relationships with a gentle hand.
