Gone (2018) presents a really intriguing take on gender dynamics with this stark drama. It’s been a little over five months since the women disappeared and the atmosphere feels heavy, almost oppressive. The pacing is slow, which adds to the tension, making you wonder what’s actually happened and how the remaining men are coping—or failing to. The performances are fairly raw, reflecting confusion and desperation. It’s interesting how the film doesn’t rely heavily on special effects; instead, it’s more about the interactions and silence. You can sense a lingering sense of loss throughout, and it does challenge the viewer to think about societal roles and what it means when they’re suddenly flipped upside down. Definitely a unique entry in the genre, something that lingers after the credits roll.
