Granny Gabai is this quirky blend of comedy and drama that really captures the essence of childhood, you know? It’s based on Shimada Yoshichi’s memoir, and there’s this warm, nostalgic vibe throughout. The pacing can be a bit uneven at times, but it adds to that almost dreamlike quality of memories. The performances are genuine, especially from whoever played the grandmother; she really brings the character to life with all those little quirks and nuances. The practical effects are minimal, focusing more on character interactions than flashiness, which I think works. It’s a film that tries to evoke feelings rather than just deliver a plot, and you can sense the love poured into it.
