Hamlet in Palestine

The documentary follows Thomas Ostermeier, the artistic director of the Schaubühne in Berlin, as he stages Hamlet in Ramallah. This project, initiated in September 2012, was inspired by Ostermeier's deep engagement with theater professionals in Palestine, particularly his connection with the Freedom Theatre in the Jenin refugee camp.

Through the lens of Hamlet, the film delves into the struggles faced by the Palestinian youth, drawing parallels between the Bard's tragedy and their realities. It also pays tribute to Juliano Mer Khamis, the murdered director of the Freedom Theatre, adding a layer of poignancy to the narrative. This documentary not only showcases the artistic endeavor but also sheds light on the broader social and political issues faced in the region.
