Haruko's Doll

The story unfolds in the early Showa era, centered in Matsuyama, Ehime Prefecture. It begins with the abandonment of a newborn baby named Haruko, who is found with a doll. Raised as the younger sister of Ryosuke, Haruko navigates her feelings for him amidst the turmoil of war.

As the war escalates, Ryosuke qualifies for the naval academy, leading to a revelation that he and Haruko are not biological siblings. This revelation has a profound impact on Haruko, who has secretly harbored feelings for Ryosuke. She sets off to share her feelings with him, only to be met with the devastation of an atomic bomb in Hiroshima the following day.
