Set 5000 years ago in India, Hathi delves into the historical significance of elephants for war, parades, and worship. The narrative centers on Makbul, who grows up amidst both wild and domesticated elephants in southern India. Despite his mother's concerns, he is determined to follow in the footsteps of his father and grandfather by becoming a mahout.
