Heroes of the Marne

The story follows Bernard Lefrancois, a wealthy farmer on the River Marne, whose life intertwines with that of his impoverished neighbor. As World War I erupts, Lefrancois's son becomes an aviator, while the neighbor's daughter, who has secretly given birth to his grandchild, takes on the role of a spy for France. This tale weaves themes of love, loyalty, and sacrifice against the backdrop of war.

As the German army occupies their area, the characters confront their intertwined fates. Lefrancois's son engages in air combat, while the unwed mother gathers crucial intelligence to help drive out the enemy. Eventually, Lefrancois himself joins the fight, highlighting the personal stakes of war and the collective struggle against a common foe.
