House of Sayuri is an atmospheric horror that really leans into its eerie setting. It’s a slow burn, which I appreciate, allowing the tension to creep in rather than hitting you over the head immediately. The story revolves around a family that unwittingly steps into a tragic past, haunted by the spirit of a murdered girl. What sets it apart is the use of practical effects over CGI, which gives the hauntings a more tangible feel. The performances are solid, especially the child actress who brings an unsettling innocence to her role. There’s a haunting beauty to the cinematography that complements the themes of loss and unresolved grief. It's not groundbreaking, but it certainly carves its own niche.
