I fratelli Segreto

The film chronicles the dramatic voyage of the steamship Savoy in 1882, as it carries a group of Italian immigrants, including brothers Pasquale and Gaetano Segreto, from Campania to Rio de Janeiro. Their quest for prosperity leads them to become influential figures in Brazil, establishing newspapers, amusement parks, cinemas, and theatres.

However, the documentary also delves into the complexities of their relationship, which deteriorates over time. The arrival of their younger brother Alfonso in 1898, equipped with a Pathé camera, adds a significant chapter to their story, marking the beginnings of cinema in Brazil. The narrative takes a tragic turn with Pasquale's death and a subsequent fire that ultimately destroys their empire, underscoring the bittersweet nature of their American dream.
