I Never Shot Anyone delves into the duality of identity with a quirky comedic twist. Renji Ishibashi makes a return after nearly two decades, and his portrayal of Susumu Ichikawa—this washed-up writer who moonlights as a supposed legendary hitman—is a fascinating study in contrasts. The film leans heavily on its absurdity, playing with the notion of what it means to be both a mundane novelist and an alleged killer. There are some interesting practical effects that highlight the humor without veering into slapstick. The pacing's a bit uneven, but that kind of adds to its charm. It captures a sort of offbeat atmosphere, really challenging the viewer's expectations of the genre. Quite distinctive in its approach, that's for sure.
