I Spy (2002) is a curious blend of action, adventure, and comedy that feels both light-hearted and a bit chaotic at times. Betty Thomas directs with a certain ebullience that captures the mismatched duo dynamic well. Eddie Murphy as Kelly Robinson brings that signature charm and wit, while Owen Wilson's Alex Scott plays the straight man, which leads to some amusing exchanges. The pacing can be a bit uneven, swinging from frantic action sequences to more laid-back banter. There’s a notable use of practical effects in the flight sequences, which gives it an old-school vibe despite the modern tech setting. It’s kind of a popcorn flick but has its moments of cleverness and fun interplay. Definitely a product of its time, with a unique energy that sets it apart.
Light-hearted tone makes it enjoyable.Strong chemistry between Murphy and Wilson.Uneven pacing, but some solid action scenes.
