If Each of Us

The film follows Serkebai, an old shepherd who defies the kolkhoz chairman Aisary’s orders to slaughter his flock due to a lack of resources. Instead, he embarks on a journey across the Syr Darya into the Kyzyl Kum desert with his sheep, his daughter Marzhan, and several kolkhoz workers. As they search for water, the narrative explores themes of sacrifice and determination.

Marzhan's quest to find her father leads her to hydrogeologists drilling an artesian well, where she meets geologist Imash. Their eventual rescue of Serkebai and his group culminates in a dramatic moment when water bursts from the well, transforming the landscape and providing a new home for the kolkhoz. The film portrays the interconnectedness of human experience and the natural world, highlighting the resilience of both individuals and communities in the face of adversity.
