If Winter Comes

In If Winter Comes, Mark Sabre hires Effie Bright to keep his wife Mabel company while he serves in the war. Upon returning home wounded, Mark discovers that Mabel has dismissed Effie, who is now in distress and arrives at his door with her baby. As Mark takes Effie in, Mabel leaves him due to the town's gossip, leading to a series of tragic events that push Mark to his breaking point.
