Incendies has this heavy, haunting quality to it that really sticks with you. Villeneuve’s direction is measured, allowing the tension to build slowly as the twins unravel their mother's past. It’s an adaptation of a play, sure, but it translates beautifully to film with its stark visuals and emotional depth. The performances, especially from Lubna Azabal, are raw and tense, bringing to life the trauma and complexities of family ties in a war-torn world. The pacing is deliberate, reflecting the weight of the story, and it’s not afraid to explore darker themes of identity and conflict. There’s a raw quality to it that feels both intimate and epic, making it a standout in the genre of war dramas without being formulaic.
