Intoarcerea Vlasinilor

The story unfolds on two distinct levels, highlighting the struggles of displaced shepherds facing the abuses of the Habsburg authorities. In their new environment, they encounter additional challenges imposed by the Phanariot powers. Meanwhile, Pastor Nicolae Branga, consumed by greed, betrays his fellow villagers as he succumbs to the influences of Viennese domination, becoming mayor and amassing wealth through treachery.

The plot thickens as the emperors devise a cunning scheme to exploit Branga's ambitions. They entice him with the title of "nemes" (lord) while manipulating the villagers into returning to their homes under false pretenses. This sets the stage for a dramatic confrontation over power, loyalty, and the fight against serfdom, as the community's wealth is put at risk by external forces.
