Irma Vep is one of those films that really captures the chaotic energy of filmmaking. You've got Maggie Cheung, who’s basically this amazing action star from Hong Kong, stepping into the French film scene. The whole premise of her being in a remake of a silent film, Les Vampires, is just ripe for absurdity. The rubber catsuit is both comical and oddly fitting, and her complete lack of French just adds to the surreal vibe. The pacing meanders, reflecting the unpredictability of the industry, and it’s all shot in this way that feels almost voyeuristic. You can sense the tension and disarray behind the scenes, making it a unique experience to watch. Cheung's performance is layered, balancing humor and a kind of disorientation that feels very real.
