The film follows Honsik, a Czech music student who travels to Germany at the onset of World War II to join a foreign worker company. After saving a boy from a bombed building, he suffers serious injuries and ends up in a hospital where he faces discrimination as a foreigner. Nurse Käthe defies the norms of the time by caring for Honsik, and a love affair develops between them despite the overwhelming circumstances.

As Honsik grapples with his feelings for Käthe and his longing for home, he contemplates escaping with his comrades. Ultimately, he chooses to stay with Käthe, but their love faces a dire obstacle when she is arrested by the Gestapo. With the help of a resistance fighter, Honsik makes a daring escape, leaving the audience with a poignant reflection on love, sacrifice, and the harsh realities of war.
