Jaws 2 is an interesting follow-up to the original, directed by Jeannot Szwarc. The film captures a similar seaside tension but shifts the focus more onto the community of Amity Island as police chief Brody faces the return of the shark threat. The pacing feels a bit uneven at times, but it definitely ramps up in the second half, delivering some solid suspense. The practical effects are decent for the era, though they don’t quite match the groundbreaking work of the first film. Roy Scheider's performance remains a highlight; he brings a relatable, grounded quality to the role. It's not as groundbreaking as Spielberg's classic, but it has its own charm and a certain nostalgic vibe that still resonates with fans of the franchise.
Released on June 16, 1978, by Universal Pictures.Filmed on location in Florida, capturing an authentic coastal feel.Includes a score by John Williams, though less memorable than the first. The shark effects were a mix of animatronics and miniatures, showing some wear.
