Judge Dredd is a bit of a mixed bag, for sure. It’s got that gritty, over-the-top vibe that embodies the '90s action sci-fi. Arnold Vosloo as the villain is pretty memorable, even if the script doesn't really give him much to work with. The film's world-building is interesting, with those sprawling cityscapes and a real sense of decay. The practical effects stand out, especially when you consider how CGI has taken over. The pacing feels uneven at times, but there's something charming about its willingness to embrace absurdity, like the ridiculous Lawgiver gun. Stallone’s performance has its moments; he does capture the essence of the character, even if it veers into self-parody at times.
Released in 1995; 96 minutes runtime.Based on the British comic character from 2000 AD.Features practical effects; CGI is minimal.Cinematography by Adam Greenberg, known for 'Terminator 2'.
