Kanikôsen

The film takes place on the Kanikosen, a boat where workers endure miserable conditions while preserving fish and crabs. It highlights the severe hardships faced by the crew, who work for minimal wages and suffer from malnutrition, some even succumbing to their plight.

At the center of the story is Shinjo, who attempts to motivate his fellow workers by promising a better life in the next world. His misguided persuasion leads some to consider suicide as a means to escape their suffering and reach a supposed fortune. However, when Shinjo is rescued by a Russian ship, he finds himself confronted with starkly different social conditions, which prompts him to return to Kanikosen in an effort to save his fellow employees.
