Krüger aus Almanya is an intriguing mix of humor and social commentary. It follows Paul Krüger, a grumpy ex-GDR stone mason who holds some pretty backward views, especially when it comes to immigrants. The film cleverly juxtaposes his traditional, almost archaic mindset against his granddaughter Annie's modern aspirations, which adds a nice layer of tension. The pacing is a bit uneven at times, but the performances, particularly by the lead, really ground the narrative. There's a distinctive charm in how the film tackles themes of family and acceptance, often using comedy to highlight the absurdities of prejudice. The atmosphere feels very Berlin, with a blend of local culture and a touch of nostalgia, which I found quite engaging.
