La Jolla Playhouse’s The Hunchback of Notre Dame

The story follows Quasimodo, the deformed bell-ringer of Notre Dame, who yearns to experience the world outside his tower. During the Feast of Fools, he escapes his caretaker, the archdeacon Dom Claude Frollo, and encounters the vibrant Parisian crowd. However, Quasimodo faces cruelty from many, save for the kind-hearted Romani woman, Esmeralda.

The narrative intensifies as Quasimodo, Captain Phoebus, and Frollo become embroiled in a love triangle over Esmeralda's affections. Frollo's obsession leads him to a dark path, prompting Quasimodo to rise in defense of Esmeralda and her people.
