Labyrinth is one of those films that stands out mainly for its practical effects and puppetry, a real testament to Henson's artistry. The blend of fantasy and coming-of-age is well done, with Sarah's journey through the titular labyrinth feeling both surreal and emotionally grounded. The puppets, especially the Goblin King played by David Bowie, have a unique charm that feels distinctly 80s but notable. The music is catchy, too, and sets the tone perfectly. It’s a bit of a slow burn in parts, but that gives you time to soak in the bizarre yet inviting world. Plus, the maze itself is a character in its own right, playing with themes of choice and consequence. Just a fascinating mix of whimsy and darkness.
Released by TriStar Pictures in 1986.Features innovative puppetry and animatronics.David Bowie contributed several original songs.Cinematography by Roger Pratt, known for rich visuals.
