The story follows Laura Sebald, a goldsmith in Berlin, who has been avoiding romantic relationships since the tragic death of her fiancé five years ago. With her daughter Anna by her side, Laura's life takes a turn when she receives an unexpected prophecy from a mysterious old man, suggesting that her wishes could come true if she writes to Santa Claus.

As Christmas approaches, Laura meets Sebastian Dobel, a chocolate manufacturer from Salzburg, igniting a spark of love between them.
