Los Ayeres de Hoy is an interesting blend of drama and history, playing with time in a way that feels fresh yet grounded. The film follows this high school student, who's really struggling, and when he meets his professor, things take a turn into the past. The pacing is deliberate, allowing viewers to really absorb the weight of Chicano history and the struggles faced. The atmosphere feels heavy, almost like a weight on your chest, but it's beautifully complemented by the practical effects that transport you back in time without feeling overly flashy. The performances, especially from the lead, bring a rawness that makes the emotional beats hit harder. It’s one of those films that asks you to sit with the material, which I think is where its strength lies.
