The film follows Sławek Wiśnik, a young musician and conservatory graduate, as he navigates life in his hometown of Kaliszewo. Faced with the disappointment of not receiving a scholarship to study in Heidelberg, Sławek must confront the realities of staying behind while grappling with his aspirations in music.

His girlfriend, Agnieszka, is eager to marry, especially with her father Zenon Nowak offering Sławek a stable job in the family business. However, Sławek's true passion lies in music, even if it means taking on unconventional roles such as a substitute organist or a disco-polo musician.
