Lucifer's Case

The story follows Herasym Kalytka, a wealthy peasant who desires to acquire his neighbor's land but lacks the funds to do so. An anonymous offer presents him with a dubious opportunity to buy one hundred thousand fake money for five thousand. In his quest for riches, Herasym teams up with his best man, Savka, only to discover that they have been sold blank paper instead of actual currency.

This turn of events pushes Herasym into a state of despair, leading him to contemplate suicide before being saved at the last moment. Despite the near-tragic outcome, his fixation on acquiring land persists. The film combines elements of comedy and crime, making it an engaging watch for those interested in narratives that highlight the absurdities of human greed and folly.
