Mackintosh Redux

Mackintosh Redux presents a revitalized take on the original film Mackintosh, preserving its core while introducing new elements. The film was scanned to 4K from 35mm preservation materials held in the National Library of Scotland’s Moving Image Archive. The restoration was overseen by Alan Russell, the Moving Image Technical and Preservation Manager, ensuring high-quality visuals.

Notably, the soundtrack features a re-recording of Frank Spedding’s original score performed by the Scottish Chamber Orchestra, conducted by Rory Boyle at the Royal Conservatoire of Scotland. The film retains a number of original shots while incorporating new ones, providing a broader narrative scope.

Subtitles have been added to enhance understanding of the music sections, alongside a revised narration that places Mackintosh within the context of architectural history. This film serves as a significant representation of Mackintosh's impact and is relevant for those interested in architecture and film restoration.
