Manglehorn is a slow-burn drama that really digs into the nuances of regret and the mundane. Al Pacino plays the titular character, AJ Manglehorn, who seems like just another quirky old guy in a small town, tending to his sick cat and having the same stale conversations every week. But there’s this underlying sadness, you know? His past as an ex-con and the ghost of a long-lost love hang over everything. It’s more about the atmosphere and those subtle moments than plot action. The performances—especially Pacino’s—carry a weight that makes you reflect on choices and the passage of time. The pacing is deliberate, letting you soak in the haunting tone, which feels both ordinary and profound at the same time. Definitely not a typical drama.
