So, 'Married?' from 1926 is this quirky little comedy where a couple has to stick together for a whole year to snag an inheritance. It’s got that charming silent film vibe, and even though the director's name seems to have slipped through the cracks of history, the performances bring a lot to the table. The pacing is interesting; it ebbs and flows between slapstick moments and some surprisingly tender interactions. The themes of marriage and commitment are explored in a light-hearted way, which was pretty fresh for its time. You get the sense of a playful atmosphere, and I find the practical effects used for comedic gags rather charming, too.
This film is a bit of an oddity in silent cinema and not the easiest to find, which adds to its appeal among collectors. There are various prints out there, but many are in less than stellar condition, making a pristine copy quite a prize. Interest in such rarities is growing, especially as more collectors seek to round out their silent film collections with notable comedies like this one.
