Matahari-Matahari tells the story of Citizen, who is drawn to Jakarta by the allure of a dangdut singer named Kokom, played by Rima Melati. Facing a troubled life marked by poverty and the loss of three children, Citizen moves to the city with his wife Iyom and their children. In Jakarta, they find themselves under the influence of Sarkim, the king of beggars, whose lifestyle ultimately threatens their family stability.
