Max Payne, directed by John Moore, really leans into that gritty, noir atmosphere you’d expect from a film adaptation of a video game. It’s dark, both thematically and visually, with a strong focus on vengeance and loss. The pacing is a bit uneven at times, especially towards the middle, but it builds this dense sense of dread that sticks with you. The performances, particularly from Mark Wahlberg and Mila Kunis, do have a certain intensity that pulls you in, though you might find some of the dialogue a bit clunky. The practical effects and stylized action sequences stand out, capturing that video game flair while still feeling grounded in a bleak New York City setting. There’s a certain moodiness throughout that’s hard to shake off.
